Muzzleloader rifle or single shot rifle, where's the difference? I'm a traditional muzzleloader shooter and I tend to get into heated discussions over this topic. Here's a good place to get started. I was shooting front stuffers long before I fell in love with the BPCR. Long guns and patch n ball, doesn't get any better than that. Here in Nebraska we have the entire month of December to hunt deer with muzzleloaders. I usually drag it out till Dec 31. God I love it!

Harlan, I also got my start with muzzleloaders, in the early '70s after seeing "Jeremiah Johnson." I went out and purchased a Ruger Old Army and a TC .45-calibre Hawken kit. Had a lot of fun. Even bagged a javelina with the Hawken. Unfortunately(actually, fortunately), I caught the Sharps virus in 1999 and have never looked back. A friend from Utah invited me to a match in 1999 at Ten Sleep, at which I competed with a borrowed Axtell in .40-70 SS. After looking at numerous rifles at the match, I ordered my Shiloh upon my return home. I regret however letting the Hawken and the Ruger get away from me in various trades. Actually, I traded the Ruger Old Army to a Navajo friend from Tuba City for a nice rug his mom made. One of the most accurate rifles I've ever seen anyone shoot was a Kentucky/Pennsylvania long rifle a friend of mine used to shoot. As I remember, it was in .32 or .36-calibre, something like that?, and it had about a 40-inch?, or so barrel. He could really hit with a patched ball with that thing, practically put the balls in the same hole.
