I got a nib H&R 38-55 for my 15 yr old girl. I need to know if it is ok to shoot in BPCR events. If not it will make a great deer slayer for her. The thing rings the 100 yd gong with ease. If she can't shoot it at "Sagebrush" I will not spend money and time fitting it with longrange creedmoor sights.

As far as I know the only place you can't use the H&R's is at an official NRA event.

Ok I'm going to C' in Kearney this weekend and ordering the sight. I need to find a pet load for it. I like to shoot a load with Swiss powder in my 1884 Trapdoor, and in my 45-70 Sharps but I think I'll work a smokeless charge for my princess. Anyone got some data to get me started? I think I'll order some of Harlon's 335grn sinkers for it, but I am a blank slate when it comes to this cal. Any help is good.

22 grs of 5744 with 335's has been recommended to me. Sort of lines up with what my Lyman 48 manual says also, so that's where I think I'll start this rifle that's coming. Then I think we'll see what it'll do with Cartridge and 2f express.

For curiosity, I put a couple of splashes on Homer at Ridgway with my H&R 38-55. Took a lot of sighters though. The 45-70 Green Mountain barrel on the H&R Buffalo Classic is very accurate out to 1000yds. BTW, Homer is a 1000yd Buffalo at Ridgeway ---------- Regards John SJPSSS - Founder and Only Member!
