load for off hand

With very little BPCR shooting behind me and just going to start reloading, I don't have much experiance to draw from but I'm leaning forward every step. So I'm wondering about an off hand load for the 45-70. Would there be any advantages/disadvantages to a load made up of a 405-420 gr.
bullet with Goex single F in a Rem or Fed case? Less felt recoil should help off hand accuracy along with more trigger time, or should I rattle the buggy down a different
trail? Thanks.

405 gr bullet should work fine. I've been shooting a 350, but with its flat nose it doesn't hold up well for the longer targets like the Quigley bucket. Have a new lyman 390? roundnose mold, and it's shooting very well at 300 yds.
I load the same 70 grs of Goex cartridge for the offhand loads as I do for the longrange stuff. You can tell the difference in felt recoil.

Don Thank you kindly. I thought bullet wt. would be the biggest factor. Wondered about the powder and a Fed case weighs 32 gr. more than a W-W, so that's where I was headed with that. Up here in Alberta we are kind of restricted for shoots so my off hand will
be Silhouette and 257 yds at a Buff. match. I'll take
your advise and work on it. Thanks again, here's to warmer days.

I'm curious? Do a lot of guys load a different round for offhand than they do for the rest of the long range match?

So far I'm shooting same load, and this is in a 45-100. I also hold a master card in highpower-better standing scores will come from a .22 adapter and bunches of rds at 50 ft. Lighter recoil, however, certainly does sound like its worth a try.

At the Quigley, I use the same load all the way thru.
It becomes a little "much" at the offhand, but when I get my usual "2" hits, I'm agrinnin'.

I use only one load in my Shiloh 34" Hartford .45-70.
72 grns. 3F Goex, PJ #45001 30/1 @540 grns, R-P case N/S only , .060 op wad, and .002 N/tension.
Offhand is a PITA for me due to guns weight and a bad shoulder. But the '10 "Q" will be my first and looking forward to it!!
Respectfully,
LG
