In developing loads for BPCR, is there an ideal distance to test from, and if so, what is it? or, should you test a given load at all ranges you will be using the load?

200 yds is a good place to start, and then move on out from there, if you have range facilities to do so.

Hi Rafterj I agree with Don starting at 200 yards. Once you start testing at distances of 300, 400 and more you will find that some loads group better at farther distance that the closer. I doesn't sound possible but it is true. There are shooters that can explain this much better than I can. This is where the topic of yaw come in. Like I said, there are a lot of shooters out there that can explain these things much better that I.

Finding a range over a 100yds is a problem. I have a lead on a 350 yd. range on private land come this spring, maybe. For now, I try to get out to the ranch twice a week and shoot 20 rds at 100 yds. I have got to the point that I can keep 10 consecutive rds. in 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 inches, sitting, cross sticks, but what kind of a group will that be on the buffalo at Alliance or the Q?

Hey guys,
I see a few names I'm familiar with!
Maybe I can use some help here. Don, Harlan?
With age comes some deterioration of vision. So, I've decided to equip my 45-90 with a scope. I've got a 3X - 17" Leatherwood scope and I'm using Dan Zimmerman's mounts. They are somewhat akin to the old square box rear Unertl. The rear allows for .425 vertical adjustment. Question is: Just how far apart do these mounts need be set?

I found something awhile ago that makes a good read and answers my questions! http://www.texas-mac.com/Searching_for_a_Cost_Effective_BPCR_Scope_Solution.html...

Hey TL,7.2" I believe but call Dan Z, helluva nice fella and excellent mounts. My shooting partner changed from Unertyls to DZs and his scores improved dramaticaly, I believe due to the easier to see hash marks. Dan's # is 405-691-1215 H.G.

Thanks, powderburnt!
I've decided on the 7.2" spacing and the DZ mounts I already have. I should be able to get to 1,000 yds with this setup.

If I use the rear dovetail on my Winchester low wall I can get 5-7/8 spacing. I been thinking about getting the DZ mounts and taking off the MVA mounts but I been a little concerned if those mounts are good to use for the NRA black powder matches. The MVA mounts just don't work for my dim eyes.

Kurt, as of last spring, the DZ mounts were legal for sillouhette. Otherwise, I would not have bought them from Dan at the time. Since my area of interest in NRA shoots is sillouhette, it was shoe in. I'll also be using the rifle(s) at Alliance and gong shoots wherever. The scope and mounts will be used on the 45-90 highwall and the new .22 low wall.

TL, let me know how the elevation works out. I just sent MVA a E-Mail asking Jim if he followed through with the aftermarket knobs we discussed at the Shiloh range two years ago. I might be getting the DZ mounts for the MVA scope. Kurt
